Adding value to ideas
Turning ideas into tangible, useful things is an iterative journey, during which we never lose sight of user needs. We balance the needs and capabilities of our clients, consumers and specifiers with the realities of production, marketing and statutory constraints. The steps toward a solution are continual reassessments of designs – building up layers of detail, verification and improvement.

There’s always more than one right way to design products, packaging or branding. Creating, discussing and analysing alternatives early on is the best way to find the most viable design quickly.
We use visuals, basic models, animation, and interactive mock-ups to get effective early feedback from the stakeholders in a new development.
Different people’s needs and desires will suggest different opportunities and problems. Different media, materials and processes may be more appropriate for your budget, schedule or market.
Optimising designs based on feedback, our team will usually develop photo-realistic visuals or animation to refine designs and get better feedback.

Whether your need is product design, packaging development or brand embodiment, engineering know-how is important in delivering design.
Our in-house technologies include 3D mechanical CAD and structural analysis, complemented by a 3D scanner that enables accurate reverse engineering and measurement.
We work extensively with a network of specialists with deep experience of electronics, including firmware, software, communications and LED lighting development.
Materials specification, value engineering, cost analysis and optimisation are essential parts of our day-to-day work for clients.

Prototypes are an essential part of the design process, informing and improving decision making.
At Lucid we prototype throughout development. Our experience proves that putting a brand, product or pack into context – i.e. into the hands of a user or consumer to test and try – improves outcomes and accelerates the development process.
Only physical prototypes enable people to gain true understanding and give true feedback. Using in-house workshop facilities, including a CNC pack mock-up cutter, wood, metal and plastics tools, a vacuum former and 3D printing, we can quickly make designs real.
Multiple pack and product mock-ups can be created for user trials, helping assure that the right design reaches the market.
