Consider all the stakeholders – develop design longevity
- Innovative amusement machine cabinet
- Six months to design and develop
- Cohesive user experience design
- Significant improvements to maintenance
- Designed for economic cell production
- Mechanisms, plastics and metalwork development
- Design longevity – a decade on the market
Barcrest’s typical amusement machine construction was focussed on adapting standard parts to deliver the best gaming experience to an end consumer. Build and service in the field presented other stakeholders in the product lifecycle with real production and health and safety issues.
The Genesis cabinet design challenge was to create a better experience of Barcrest machines for every individual or organisation involved. From the shop floor assembly operative to the gamer, to site management, we had to deliver tangible benefits.
Lucid Group’s Alistair Williamson led the team that created Genesis, delivering unprecedented freedom for games design, better ergonomics for consumers and simple construction.
Lucid Group’s Alistair Williamson led the team that created Genesis, designing for and around people.
We designed out “stretching” for cash input/output – increasing revenue with uninterrupted play. We found ways to give games designers additional depth and positioning freedom.
Concept models were taken onto the shop floor, and with Barcrest’s production team, we simplified manufacturing. Design for a single-side facing assembly also allowed engineers better access to components during service. Brand awareness and loyalty was promoted with prominent, moulded-in logos.
Unprecedented freedom for games design, better ergonomics for consumers and maintenance, and simpler construction resulted in a design that was marketed for over a decade.
