Flying insect control in commercial environments such as food preparation areas and farm buildings is critical to maintaining hygiene. The UK market is dominated by price-focussed Far East OEM products.
Pest West saw the opportunity to develop a premium range, aimed at particularly high-use areas. Benefits including high dead-insect capacity, minimal maintenance, long product life, safe operation and easy cleaning could be a compelling offer.
Pest West sought a design partner with significant experience in structural design for industrial products and value engineering.
Observing how service personnel interacted with existing fly killers helped our team understand the issues involved. Multiple design alternatives were discussed with Pest West’s team before extensive consumer and safety testing with prototypes.
3D CAD, structural analysis, mouldflow analysis, prototyping and early supplier liaison helped deliver a robust, easy-to-manufacture product design solution.
Operation and maintenance procedures were accelerated and made safer with development of safety-locked easy-clean guards, kill grids and unique lockable multi-position grilles. The range is still on the market 12 years on.
