RS Building Products was formed with the takeover of several competing washroom environment manufacturers.
Faced with a slow-down in public and third sector procurement, the businesses needed to differentiate their range quickly and effectively.
RS Building Products approached Lucid to deliver a series of new designs, to compete more effectively in the school and nursery toilet cubicle markets.
Common requirements included developing a calming, gender-neutral environment, patterning to deter vandalism and appropriateness to typical education age ranges.
Print had to be appropriate for application onto melamine-faced board, high pressure laminate board and solid laminates.
Our product design team created over 20 pattern concepts, targeting the needs of different specifiers in the schools market. Themes drew on behavioural research, colour theory and our knowledge of the technical constraints of board and print optimisation.
Particular emphasis was placed on inclusive design for children, carers and learners with disabilities. Starkly-contrasting pilasters and doors helped to differentiate entrances for the visually impaired. To help wheelchair users, door options included panel profiles that provided low-level grip, and door furniture set-back to avoid snagging.
Consumer feedback helped focus on 6 designs and shaped a strategy for RS Building Products’ washroom offer.
We delivered print-ready continuous artwork that has been applied across the Venesta, Bushboard and Amwell brands.
