Wurlybird was established to recreate classic children’s activity toys. The company wanted to inspire children and their parents to put down their electronic gadgets, get out in the garden and have fun.
As a start-up business, entering a market dominated incumbents offering multi-product lines, Wurlybird wanted needed a range that screamed out “fun”.
Contemporary styling and engineering to modern safety standards were pre-requisites. Design for efficient palletisation to reduce import and distribution costs from China was vital.
Our industrial designers developed multiple alternative designs and undertook extensive consumer testing to get feedback on a range of new presentations of toys from the past.
Full-size foam model chairs were made to test ergonomics and safety features. Development of a patented ride mechanism involved extensive 3D CAD, structural and mouldflow analysis combined with early supplier liaison.
We optimised folding and assembly to minimise packaging size, driven by pallet and shipping box dimensions.
Wurlybird Flyer has been on the market for over 7 years, with UK and US distributor networks.
