What we provide
Provide Lucid with .STL files and a drawing to confirm scale – we can make parts in just hours, using an ABS plastic simulant.
If you don’t have 3D design data, we can convert sketches or 2D CAD, or even 3D scan existing models.
3D print isn’t constrained like traditional processes. Some assemblies consisting of separate interlocking parts can even be built in one go.
The tech stuff
You may need to change the default settings in your .STL output – just call, our team can help. Our Objet printer delivers a gloss finish outer surface and a matt inner. Both are easy to finish for painting.
We use ABS-like Objet Vero Plus Full Cure 835, an off-white material. Build tolerance is approx. +/- 0.1mm, Minimum material thickness is 0.3mm and density is about 1.175g cm³.
The maximum part size is 294mm x 192mm x 148mm. Larger parts can be made by splitting your data and bonding the prints together.
The more parts you order in one batch, the more economical the build will normally be.
How it works
3D printing works like an inkjet printer. It quickly builds up and fuses very thin layers of plastic. Support material is deposited as a base structure to your design.
This sacrificial material helps to stabilise the part and enables the printing of raised underside features. When the build is complete, we clean off the support material – that’s it!
As 3D print is so fast and requires no tooling, many businesses are using prints in low-volume production.
