Quality and safety are our number-one priority.
Test & statutory accreditation are essential parts of the product design process in markets increasingly subject to regulation.
We preclude problems early in a design process by researching relevant standards, creating test rigs & computer simulations that help optimise proposals.
Consumer group input, or partner organisations with specialist, statutory test equipment maybe involved at a later stage. Experience includes managing ATEX, EMC, FDA, CE, UL and many other conformances in a wide range of market sectors and territories.
Case studies on the right show how management of test & accreditation during the product design process has delivered leading security, cosmetic salon treatment & professional tool products.

Test & Accreditation
SafeBox by name, SafeBox by nature...
Lucid Group designed SafeBox for Royal Mail, to securely transport hazardous diagnostic specimens in normal postal systems without risk of leakage.
Potential customers demanded that the packaging was tough, resilient and tested to UN 602, the highest international standard.
Our industrial designers worked with accreditation experts at PIRA, an independent test house from early in the development. Understanding test procedures in detail, we were able to reduce risk and accelerate new product development. The design and specification was optimised to pass with minimal impact on the consumer experience, cost and scheduling.

Tests involved inflating the pack to simulate the effect of compression/decompression in an aircraft, drop from 10m and all-side impact from a 7kg bar. In all cases the contents had to survive without leakage.
Lucid Group's design engineers undertook extensive computer analysis, commissioned prototype tooling and built rigs to do pre-accreditation testing - we knew the design would pass first time.
SafeBox won the Instititute of Packaging's Starpack Award for Innovation. Royal Mail markets the product to laboratories and licenses to world-wide postal organisations.

Ensuring complete safety in volatile environments
Lucid Group designed Stat-Gun to help eliminate static electricity in the process of painting plastics.
Static prevents paint adhering properly, disrupting production, causing rework, delay and cost.
Potential electronic design solutions included high voltage hardware.
Stat-Gun was to be used in spray shops, a hazardous environment, where potentially explosive spray vapours were present.

To ensure the product would be safe, our industrial designers worked with accreditation experts at SIRA, an independent test house early in the development.
Understanding the specification of products that had previously achieved ATEX (Explosive atmosphere) conformity in detail, we were able to reduce risk and accelerate new product development. Materials and design were optimised to pass with minimal impact on the consumer experience, cost and scheduling.

Genie: Testing & certifying medical devices

Testing & certifying medical devices
Lucid Group designed Genie Complete to deliver a range of innovative salon cosmetic therapies.
Each treatment passes high voltage hardware across a consumer's body - making the product fall under the scope of the European Union's Medical Device Directive.
We had to prove that therapies were safe and the product adequately protected consumers & beauticians.

Advice on electronic design proposals and pre-accreditation testing by Cranage EMC & Safety Group helped deliver a product designed to conform.
Mindful of export potential, specification deliberately included UL approved materials & power input components, simplifying the product design process, reducing the need to re-test for specific markets.
