Lumiere is the second photodynamic therapy device developed for Photo Therapeutics by Lucid Innovation.
The technology behind Lumiere is based on a non-surgical skin cancer treatment. Improved skin-tone and decreased lines and wrinkles were noted as a potentially lucrative by-product of clinical trials.
Photo Therapeutics was negotiated a contract to supply thousands of salon cosmetic treatment devices to the United States. Apart from the base technology, the product didn’t exist and the first batch of devices was required in 9 months.
As a cosmetic salon product, the product needed to combine an elegant aesthetic with a convincing clinical feel. Relatively unskilled users would need to be able to operate the device using a very simple interface.
Lucid’s industrial designers surveyed salons to discover what might deliver the best experience to consumers and clients. Investigating options, the team quickly created basic prototypes, testing market acceptance, ergonomics and user interface principles.
To hit the tight schedule, manufacturers were commissioned early on in the project and fed information in advance of production data. Our team overcame thermal and mechanism development challenges using extensive risk analysis and CAD-based analysis and rapid prototyping.
The complex moulded assembly of Lumiere was delivered on-time, error-free and to budget. The design has delivered several years’ worth of continuing export sales for Photo Therapeutics.
