Sustainable product and service design

Lucid Innovation -sustainable product and service design impact analysis

Real environmental impact with comprehensive life-cycle assessment

Background

Since our foundation over 20 Years ago, Lucid’s team has delivered solutions that minimise environmental impact throughout the whole life-cycle and value-chain of a product’s use.

Specialising in healthcare and wellness, we balance the constraints of infection prevention with procurement policy increasingly requiring evidence including:

  • NHS England net-zero supplier roadmap - including social value and carbon reduction reporting.

  • Accurately representing users and markets - including diversity of involvement in innovation workshops, design review, human factors and performance evaluation.

  • Grant, award and commercial funding requirements - often weighted to support sustainability, accessibility and inclusion.

  • Legal mandates to reduce power consumption, materials waste and consumption of scarce or environmentally damaging resources.

  • Commercial concerns including ethical and resilient supply chains.

Discovery

We’ll investigate different ways in which a service could be delivered, understanding alternative impacts on regulation, guidance and the earth that each could have.

In early development, there is often little firm available evidence of sustainability impacts.

Our team’s experience helps us provide reasonable data comparisons for informed decision-making.

Design

Irrespective of addressing formal requirements, Lucid’s team takes a holistic view in development.  Our everyday focus includes:

  • Improving the relevance, effectiveness, and efficiency of products with diverse stakeholder involvement in ideas generation and development.

  • Exploring the potential to reduce, recycle and reuse.

  •  Limiting specification of harmful pollutants and chemicals.

  • Planning to lower greenhouse gas emissions and CO2 footprint.

  • Using renewable energy sources.

  • Specification for ethical supply chains.

Delivery

Lucid’s team creatively exploits the most sustainable technology possible, pragmatically balanced with needs to deliver safe, commercially viable products and services.

We’ll always be honest, we’ll always avoid greenwash.

Complementing design and manufacturing outputs, Lucid’s team provides formal and informal data including:

  • Carbon or sustainability reporting.

  • Compliance reporting and certification.

  • Manufacturing traceability reporting.

It’s a balance we make every day.
