Designing sustainable safety devices

Writer: Clym BrownClym Brown

Protecting people and our environment.

Safety devices protect people in industrial, residential, commercial and public spaces. They play a critical role in ensuring ongoing and continuous protection, even in the most hazardous and challenging environments.

But can safety products help protect the environment too?

Designing with sustainability in mind is part of Lucid’s DNA. Our mission to help ambitious organisations design life-enhancing products includes all aspects of ‘life-enhancing’; none more so than preserving our environment for future generations.

Lucid takes a holistic approach to sustainable design in safety products, highlighted by our recent work with CGD Technology. As specialists in ground gas detection for buildings and contaminated sites, CGD Technology approached Lucid to imagine, design and make improved, safer detection systems with enhanced sustainability.

The result? Sentinel, a step-change in ground gas detection. Featuring sensing of multiple gas types, configurable wireless monitoring and remote connectivity, Sentinel offers CGD Technology considerable market and product advantages.

Here’s how Sentinel offers a host of sustainability advancements:

  1. Remote emissions monitoring

Adding remote connectivity removes unnecessary visits to site, minimising environmental impacts of travel.

  2. Mesh network wireless connectivity

Removes the need for cables between devices and can reduce the number of devices needed per site.

  3. Low power, long battery life

Reduces energy consumption and minimises battery replacement.

  4. Reusable land

Accelerates land reuse by verifying absence of toxins.

  5. Reusable devices

Device units can be redeployed and reused in a wide variety of applications, further minimising environmental impact.

  6. Recycle and reconfigure

Interchangeable and replaceable gas monitoring sensors allow configuration for a variety of gas types and applications, without changing the device itself.

  7. Made locally

Manufactured locally by CGD Technology to be close to customers, minimising environment impact from storage, logistics and shipping.
