How do we close the gender gap in healthcare?

Writer: Shelby AyrisShelby Ayris

Research into women’s health has been underfunded for decades. Conditions that mostly or only affect women, such as endometriosis, pelvic floor disorders and urinary tract infections, are largely understudied compared to those that predominantly affect men. This needs to change. How can we close this gender gap in healthcare?”

Lucid’s Alistair Williamson and Shelby Ayris will tackle this issue at Life Science Integrates FemHealth Integrates 2025 on 18th March 2025 at Bruntwood SciTech’s Circle Square, Manchester.

Our team specialises in FemTech innovation, designing and developing devices for pelvic floor health and gastroenterology. We understand the real challenges women face - and how to solve them.

More research is welcome, but action is urgent. Earlier diagnosis and accessible healthcare improve outcomes and reduce pressure on services. In FemHealth, delays and misdiagnoses aren’t just statistics - they have a profound impact on women’s lives.

The biggest challenge isn’t just research or innovation - it’s adoption. We’re pushing for real change by ensuring the right pathways, funding, and infrastructure are in place to get new solutions into healthcare systems - fast.
