Magstim is a leading provider of transcranial magnetic stimulation systems (TMS), used in research into psychological disorders.
As compelling evidence for effective treatment of drug- treatment-resistant depression and OCD emerged, priority user and market needs evolved from research to medical device applications.
Lucid was asked to develop new software and integrations specifically for clinical use.

To understand human, organisational and technical challenges Lucid’s UX and application software designers met with researchers, clinicians and Magstim’s engineering and international sales teams.
We mapped human and data interaction in clinical protocols, analysed research experience, user feedback, competitor and analogous systems.
Prioritising opportunities to add value, by accelerating reliable clinical use, Lucid’s team defined a modular approach to ongoing software development.
Design
Creating and working through options with UX and UI wireframes, storyboards, clickable and working prototypes, stakeholders provided valuable feedback.
Concepts for treatment quality scores, analytics and patient data management were iterated. A clean, minimalist aesthetic was integrated with simple, robust user interaction. Formative usability testing informed hazard analysis and initial risk management.

Application software development following ISO 62304, with significant unit, integration and penetration testing concurrent with formative human factors engineering studies ensuring risk management compliant to ISO 14971.
